mid-week round-up

red flowers

Welcome to Wednesday! How has everyone been? Last week Chet was on Spring Break so we were able to sneak away to the beach a couple times. I finished this book with my toes in the sand. Not exactly light, fluffy beach reading but fascinating just the same. Now I’m reading a book about home design, feng shui, and self awareness. It includes a lot of exercises and self-guided meditations to help you design a “home for your heart.” Yesterday, I completed an activity where I sketched out the floor-plan of a dream-house I “visited” while meditating. Apparently I want a 3 bedroom, 2 bath cottage with a big front porch, screened in breakfast nook, and a table specifically reserved for crafting. Sounds about right. (Does all of that sound crazy? Meh. I’m into it, whatevs.) Anyways, this week I’ve been taking it easy and trying to get as much work done as possible because I’m headed back to Bowling Green on Friday, get back Monday, and then Chet and I are off to Gainesville the following Friday to judge at a national speech tournament! Should be a fun couple of weeks! Now, on to the links…

Speaking of dream homes, this bathroom makeover is making my heart flutter.

I’m a sucker for any viral internet stories about poop.

Can women get away with wearing the same thing to work every day?

The mystery of Richard Simmons’ silence.

A boy and his pets.

The dangerous culture lurking within America’s national parks.

What Americans don’t understand about Nordic countries.

The fading romance of Cinderella Homes.

Modern-day lepers.

15 things that can happen when you get into yoga.

This was disheartening.

A lesson in pronunciation.

Creating My Capsule -Sweater

I thought it might be fun to show you guys the pieces I buy, and pull from my existing stash, on the road to my 50 Piece All-Season Capsule Wardrobe. I picked up this charcoal gray sweater at Target a couple months back and think it’s a perfect addition to my closet. I love the waffle knit! So cozy. Originally priced at $25, it was already a bargain. But I also snagged a 30% discount because I live in South Florida and winter-wear is always getting marked down! Unfortunately, living in South Florida ALSO means opportunity to wear this sweater is few and far between. It’s definitely coming with me up to Kentucky this weekend though!

50 Piece All-Season Capsule Wardrobe

With more and more people jumping on the minimalism train some of my more random obsessions are finding their way into the popular culture spotlight. Now that everyone and their mother has read Marie Kondo’s book, I can’t shake a stick at YouTube without finding a video highlighting a capsule wardrobe. (This is not a problem for anything but my productivity. I LOVE capsule wardrobe videos.) 33 pieces. 37 pieces. Accessories and jewelry included or not. Two capsules a year. Seasonal capsules. Capsules just for work wear and play clothes and comfies. There’s SO much inspiration out there if you want to go down the capsule wardrobe road.

With all that inspiration in mind, I decided to try my hand at putting together a capsule that could maybe work (with just a few minor swaps) all year long. You could of course store the colder weather items away during warmer weather, and vice-versa. This is a capsule that I see being very feasible for my own life and what I want to work towards. I’d like to use it as a resource when I’m de-cluttering but also when I’m shopping for clothes. Because while I have a lot of these pieces, sitting down to dream up my perfect capsule was actually a great first step in showing me some glaring holes that exist in my wardrobe. (For example – I don’t own a white, collared button-up shirt. Staple item!)

So, check it out and let me know what you think….

Share your favorite resources if you do!

P.S. Admittedly, I’m a bit of a jewelry and bag hoarder so this capsule may be difficult for me in that regard. But I think I could do it! But jewelry especially is just so easy to store…why part with it?! Maybe some day!
