Your Ultimate Guide To Buying New Skin Care

Skin care is a huge industry in the 21st Century – billions and billions of dollars are made in profits every year. There are new products, new brands and new “must-haves” being created all the time, so as an everyday consumer, it can be tricky to figure out which skin care is best for you.

In this post, I will take you through the questions you need to ask yourself and the research you need to do before you buy new skin care. Skin care that is wrong for you can cause symptoms like rashes, excessive oil, dryness – or simply no effect at all!

Are you ready to get educated on skin care? Let’s get started!

Knowing your skin type

Your skin type is the first thing you need to know before you shop for new skin care. Skin care products are designed for people of different ages and skin types, meaning that if you buy the wrong one for you, your skin will get worse, not better.

What is a skin type? Your skin type is the result of lots of factors, including hormones, diet, genetics and your routine. To find out your skin type, click here.

Reading reviews

Now that you know your skin type and can narrow down your product search a little more, it’s time to get into the nitty gritty of the situation. If you have some products in mind that you’d like to try, but you want to know which to choose, now is the time to dig into some customer reviews.

You can read reviews, like this Pure Haven essentials review, on blogs, product websites or social media. Reviewers will often give a rating out of five, then detail in their own words how the product helped them – or why they didn’t like it.

Of course, everybody is different – just because someone disliked a product, that doesn’t mean you will! However, reviews are a good guide to see if the product is worth a try for someone of your skin type and age, and for your budget.

Familiarizing yourself with ingredients

Skin care products contain many, many ingredients – it would be impossible to memorize them all, unless you have a degree in dermatology!

However, there are some ingredients that come up again and again, that are beneficial for your skin and might make a product stand out! These include:

  • Salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is an ingredient that is perfect for people with acne and/or blackheads, as it gently exfoliates and cleans away bacteria and oil.
  • Vitamin A. Vitamin A is often found in retinoids which can reduce acne and brighten your skin.
  • Natural plant oils. Natural plant oils like witch hazel are fantastic additions to skin care, as they nourish your skin with vitamins and hydrate it too.

Do you want to buy new skincare, but you aren’t sure where to start? Knowing your skin type, reading the reviews, and learning common ingredients will help you make the right decision for your skin!

Need a Pick-Me-Up? Gift Ideas to Treat Yourself

*This post may contain affiliate links.

We all get down sometimes, and one of the things that I find helps is to buy yourself a little pick-me-up. Everyone loves to receive gifts, who cares if the gift is from yourself!? At least you know what you like, and it’s going to be exactly what you wanted! In this post, I’m going to be looking at some of the awesome gifts that you can buy for yourself if you’re feeling down. So, if you want to know more, keep reading down below.

Something For Your Skin

The first thing that I am going to suggest is something for your skin. Whether this is some face wipes, toner or moisturizer, it doesn’t matter. Just think about something that you don’t have right now that would be a nice treat for your skin, and head to the store to buy it. Or, if you can only purchase them online, get on the internet and put it in your cart straight away. It’s always nice to feel your face all soft and smooth or to look at yourself in the mirror and notice a change in how your skin looks.

Make sure that you read the ingredients and reviews before you make a purchase. This is just to ensure that you aren’t allergic to any of the ingredients and that people can vouch for the fact that it works the way it says it does. While all skin-types are unique, customer reviews of skincare products can still be your best friend.

Jewelry Always Works

Or, if you want something a little different, gift yourself some jewelry. This always works when it comes to cheering yourself up. Look at earrings, necklaces, bracelets, maybe even an opal belly ring! More ideas can be found over at Urban Body Jewelry if this is something that interests you. It’s always a great feeling to see something shiny and new on your body, even if nobody else can see it!

Choose something that you think is awesome, and it will cheer you up massively when it comes. You might even find that when you put it on for the first time, it gives you a confidence boost, and this will help you with the blues that you have been experiencing.

Makeup!

Finally, makeup is always a great way to make yourself feel better if you’ve been feeling a little down in the dumps. Those beautiful colors have a way of bringing a smile to your face, as it gives you the opportunity to try out something new! Enjoying your time creating new looks in the mirror is as fun as it gets for someone who loves makeup. With makeup, it’s more than just the product, it’s creative expression!

I hope that you have found this post helpful, and now have a few ideas about awesome gifts that you can buy yourself if you’re in need of a pick-me-up. Feel better soon! xoxo

mid-week round-up

What’s new with y’all? We took an impromptu weekend trip to a nearby state park and stayed the night in a lodge there. We swam, watched boats go by, and enjoyed everything about the lodge that felt straight out of the 70’s. (It was built in ’73 and I’m truly obsessed with it’s time-capsule vibe!) It was a great way to recharge and dive headfirst back into work this week. Hope you have a great Wednesday, and here are a few links for your enjoyment…
