My Dream Jewelry Capsule

*This post may contain affiliate links.*

When it comes to curating a personal look, I tend to invest most of my efforts and money into the main body of my wardrobe. You know – coats, jeans, blouses, tops, and a whole array of different shoes. When it comes to accessories, I’m a sucker for bags and scarves.

However, something that can really add a little je ne sais quoi to your look? Jewelry. Jewelry can function as a signature item that will add a personal touch to whichever ensemble you might have chosen that day. Sometimes it really is the little touches that count.

It’s these little touches that I’d love to start focusing on. And YOU KNOW I love a good capsule. A capsule helps you focus on building a collection without going overboard. Below, I’ve highlighted my favorite types of jewelry and a few options for each.

Here’s what I’d include in my JEWELRY CAPSULE —

Watches

Option 1 // Option 2 // Option 3

Statement Earrings

Option 1 // Option 2 // Option 3

Diamonds

Option 1 // Option 2 // Option 3

TIP: A key piece of advice to bare in mind when buying diamonds is to know what you’re talking about before heading into a shop. Take a read through VVS diamonds information at Whiteflash. A little knowledge can go a long way and will ensure that you are getting the right kind of stone for your money.

Birth Stones

Option 1 // Option 2 // Option 3

Handcrafted Pieces

Option 1 // Option 2 // Option 3

Pearls

Option 1 // Option 2 // Option 3

TIP: If possible, opt for artificial pearls. You generally cannot tell the difference and it makes your jewelry cruelty free

What about you? What are your favorite types of jewelry? What dream piece would  you love to splurge on if you had the chance (and the extra cash)?

Etsy Store Swoon: Clare Elsaesser

These are a few of my favorite prints from the fantastic Etsy shop, which I’ve been swooning over for weeks — Clare Elsaesser. The women floating through or wading into water and carrying armloads of colorful flowers give the paintings a beautiful ethereal quality. But the little details, like a messy top knot or a polka dot print, combined with the obstructed face, make it seem as though these portraits could be anyone. Does that make sense? Wouldn’t you love to hang one in your home? I’m obsessed.

Entryway Wish List

Where do you focus your design-energy in your home? There are the obvious spaces — like creating a zen-like bathroom or a kitchen that feels cozy enough for guests to gather around the table. But lately, I’ve been feeling inspired to add a little of my aesthetic to our new entryway. As I mentioned in this post, it’s the first design project I’d like to tackle in our new abode. After all, it’s the first thing folks see when they walk in your house!

So far, I’ve got these hooks hung and a runner rug laid out. (Shout out to my mom for choosing the rug!) I took to Amazon to track down some other pieces that are now wish listed for the project …

This shelf, sitting long-ways, can display my bits and bobs, but also offers a storage solution by tucking a basket or two in the bottom cubbies.

A director floor lamp to cast an inviting glow.

I could add texture by sticking an oversized plant in the mix and housing it in one of these mid-century modern planters.

Ya gotta have a mirror so you can check your look before leaving.

And maybe a large print in a gold frame for the DRAMA.

Finally, I’d like to add this piece to my bar cart (which is what you see as you walk down my self-created entryway) because I’ve considered tons of small wine racks and I always land back at this one.

For little touches – I’m all about a giant candle with sweet matches at the ready, succulents nestled in terra cotta pots, and maybe a thrifted crate to house muddy shoes.

How have you decorated your entryway? Tell me in the comments!

P.S. Since we’re renting this home, I’m following these tips.

Tour my shelves.

bookcase1

Today, I thought I’d let you take a little tour of my bookcase shelves. I’ve been contemplating a bookshelf reorganization by color (straight up Roy G. Biv style) just to change things up but also because they look so fun and aesthetically pleasing when I see colorful book rainbows on Pinterest and Apartment Therapy. (Examples: here, here and here.) For now, though, these books live categorically–in my own little library system. So go ahead and take a peek at my bedroom bookcase. I have another smaller set of shelves in my living room for books that deserve more spotlight as well as a shelf in my dining room for cookbooks–we’ll save their tours for another day. (Remember when I said I may never whittle down ALL of my belongings to fit in an actual, real life tiny home? Haha.) Want a closer look?

How do you organize your books? Do you think I should make the switch and have all these book-babies live the rainbow life? I guess if I end up hating it I can always switch it back to my current system…especially now that I have photo documentation. : )

Kitchen dreaming. (Farm sinks are my jam.)

farmsink4

The kitchen of my dreams definitely involves a farm sink. Utilitarian (think of all the things you can do in that big basin–wash fresh vegetables straight from the garden, strain huge pots of spaghetti noodles, give your farmer’s market bouquets drinks of water in their accompanying quirky vases), bright and a great focal point amongst a slew of cabinets. I used to think not having a split basin sink would be an annoyance for the no-dishwasher life. However, after moving into an apartment with a deep, white sink I’m a total convert. What do you think?
