Found! The Perfect Striped Dresses for Spring

It’s Friday! To celebrate the end of the work week, let’s do a bit of online window shopping, shall we? I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect dress for spring and my eyes keep getting pulled in the direction of stripes. There are so many options that are colorful, airy, and fun…and the stripes feel a little less expected than a floral print. What do you think? What prints are you feeling drawn to this spring?

If you’re in the market for a STRIPED DRESS, here are 5 options I found from one of my favorite online shops, Lulus

Option 1

Option 3 –

Option 4 –

Option 5 –

Classic Items You Need in Your Wardrobe

*This post may contain affiliate links.*

There are some items that are absolute classics, and every gal should have them in their wardrobe. Classics are classic for a reason. They have stayed around because the style is long lasting, and no matter what fad fashions might come along, these ones are here to stay. Many of these items are simple, but very versatile too, so you can put them with anything and you have an outstanding outfit with little to no effort. Classics are simple and can usually be dressed up for a dinner with the in-laws, or dressed down for going out for lunch with friends. Whatever your style is, you can add these classic items in your wardrobe! They will make your life easier, getting dressed in the morning much simpler, and will make your look, well — a lot more classic!

Skinny Jeans

These pants are the work-horses of many women’s wardrobes. Skinny jeans are great because they go with just about anything from glamorous tops for a night out, to baggy oversized tees for wearing throughout the day while on a day trip with your other half. Skinny jeans are a fairly neutral option if you plan on pairing them with a statement piece of clothing or something very colorful on top. They even look great dressed down with converse or vans, or even heels. Black, to white washed, to even white in the summer, skinny jeans are good for all types of weather and looks. If you don’t have a pair already, grab a couple to put in your wardrobe for this classic look.

Leather Jacket

This adds a touch of bad-ass to any look, and can shield against an autumn breeze, or a windy summer night. Whatever your style, there are loads of leather jackets out there to suit you. You can find  women’s jackets in all kinds of styles, from covered in studs for a punk-look, to half sleeves, or even textured with patterns. A leather jacket can put the finishing touches on an otherwise blah outfit. Going out for drinks? Add a black leather jacket and suddenly you have a touch of glamour, and your whole look becomes a little more dressed up. The color means it goes with just about anything as well, so like skinny jeans, you can wear it with any style, no matter what your night holds.

Silk Blouse

These are fun because you can find many different colors and designs, and get creative with the kind of silk blouses you have in your wardrobe. You can rock aztec designs, to big bold 80s prints; whatever takes your fancy, there is a blouse out there for you. The silk also means that the material looks luxurious, and is less likely to crease and look untidy. Silk blouses are great to dress up any work outfit, and make going to the office just that bit more exciting. Or you can wear them out to dinner in the evening. Versatility for the win! Silk shirts can make you look put together, and add that slight air of sophistication whatever you decide to do in them. Bonus: they look great with those skinny jeans and black leather jacket!

The Denim Jacket

The denim jacket is a wonderful counterpart to leather jackets, and gives a totally different feel to your outfit. If you’re going to a concert, or a picnic in the park, throw on a denim jacket for an extra layer of warmth. (They also look adorable tied around your waist when you need to cool off!) They look great on colder days too, and are a perfect layering piece on top of hoodies, wool sweaters, and band t-shirts. Definitely consider adding this classic item to your wardrobe.

These are just a few of the classic items that I believe most people would benefit from keeping in their wardrobes. But if you want to go down the rabbit hole for more items, you’re in luck! I’m a sucker for these type of posts. Check out —

My Autumn 2017 Capsule Wardrobe

Hi friends! I finally bit the bullet and put together a Project 333 capsule wardrobe this season. I’ve written about my All Season Capsule Wardrobe, as well as how to create a 10 Piece Starter Pack, but this capsule wardrobe is a little different. Following the Project 333 guidelines it is only for Autumn and consists of 33 items. I decided to include accessories and bags but not shoes.

First, I’ll share all the pieces I chose (10 of which I’d already selected for my personal starter pack), and then at the end of the post I’ll share how I’m choosing to keep clothes interesting (without spending a ton!) while still maintaining my capsule.

Let’s start with dresses!

Notes: I have dressier options on hand for special occasions. But since I would probably only wear those once (or not at all), they don’t have to be included. These are more go-to, everyday dresses.

Dresses

Little Black Dress
Target

Maxi Skirt (+Grey Tee)
Stitch Fix

Shirt Dress
Kohl’s

Outerwear

Outerwear. When you live in South Florida you can get away with a super small amount in this category. (And I won’t have to go any warmer than this in Winter either!)

Jean Jacket
Stitch Fix

Grey Cardigan
Target

Black Cardigan
T.J. Maxx

Vest
Stitch Fix

Striped Cardigan
Stitch Fix

Bottoms

Bottoms! I’ve never been someone who feels the need to own a bunch of pants. The unpictured pair of jeans is what I’m most often sporting. But I do love a good pair of dress pants. If you’re short, Kohl’s is where it’s at for slacks.

*Forgot to take a picture…because I was wearing them, lol*

Grey Jeans

Grey Slacks

Black Slacks
Kohl’s

Black Leggings
Target

Tops

This is probably the biggest category in any capsule. I tried to limit my picks to the items I most often gravitate to anyways…and then narrow down based on season, matching capability, and occasion versatility.

Graphic Tee
Studio Nico

Floral Blouse
Thrifted

Black Tee
Target

Striped Shirt

Navy Silk Blouse

Patterned Silk Blouse
Kohl’s

Plaid Shirt
Forever 21

Pink Ruffle Top

Navy Polka Dot Top
Gordman’s

Bags

Honestly, I have about a gajillion other bags but I rarely crack them out. These are my bare bones bag options and I really think they’re all I need.

Black Cross-Body
Tom Bihn

Backpack
Tom Bihn

Accessories

My favorite pieces for dressing up a boring outfit! Of course, jewelry is tiny and easy to access so it’s not the end of the world if I branch outside the capsule every now and again.

Ok, so if you’ve been keeping count you’ll know we’re at 30 pieces. Which leaves us with 3 more spaces to be filled! These 3 spaces are how I keep things interesting while still maintaining my capsule. Because they are filled with an ever rotating cast of closet characters thanks to Le Tote. I signed up for Le Tote a few months ago and I absolutely LOVE IT! They send you 3-5 items (depending on the subscription you sign up for), you wear them as much as you want, send them back…and they send you more!

So last week I had a beautiful 3/4 length sleeve dress, a t-shirt with embroidered birds on the front, and a mustard yellow cross-body bag. This week? A cardigan cut like a blazer, a black turtleneck, and a dainty necklace. Mixed and matched with my capsule the outfit possibilities are endless!!!

If you’d like to try Le Tote, you can get $25 off your first month by CLICKING HERE and using promo code SHOPLT.

P.S. 7 YouTube channels you should check out for inspiration!

P.P.S. If you’re more of a one and done capsule wardrobe person (or the concept sparks your interest), you can get a checklist PDF of my 50 Piece All-Season Capsule Wardrobe right this way!

Shopping my closet!

There’s a few reasons I’ve felt less than inspired by clothes the last month. 1) I’ve been working from home. 2) Florida is HOTTTT! The less clothes the better, HEY-OOO! 3) Buying a bunch of new pieces really hasn’t been in my budget. So, just for fun I decided to have a nose-around through the ol’ closet and dresser drawers and see if I could come up with a few outfits to be excited about.  My goal was to put together 4 looks for ME. 4 looks that would meet my day-to-day needs, so I’ll actually wear them, and made up of 4 components, so I can get out of the shorts + top look I’ve been over-wearing as of late. I’m not saying these ensembles are on trend by any means or advocating for you to replicate them. (I realize it’s actually Fall in MOST of the U.S. and not a million degrees like these pieces would have you believe, lol.) However! I DO recommend a rifle through clothes you already own if you’re stuck in a bit of style rut. You no doubt have WAY more options than you think. And if nothing else, it’s kinda fun to play dress-up!

Favorite Things Friday!

soundofmusicfavoritethingsgraphic

So, here’s a totally random post because it’s Friday and I want to talk about some of my favorite things!

1) Bagel upgrades.

bagel1bagel2

A bagel from Great Bagel. Hit it with any or all of the following: bacon, spinach, turkey, mustard, swiss, muenster, grilled onions, sriracha… I will be a happy girl. I’ve talked about creating food rituals at home before but this is my most tried and true “eating out” ritual. I typically order up one of these bad boys from the Good Foods Co-op every Monday aka Bagel Day.

2) Binge watching newly discovered YouTubers.

I can’t stop watching the YouTube channel ViviannaDoesMakeup and I really have no idea why. Well, maybe I have somewhat of an idea…I LOVE HER ACCENT. She mostly does makeup videos (tutorials, hauls, etc) which I haven’t really been watching. But I’m totally obsessed with her vlog videos and her very adorable British life. Isn’t she the cutest? Most days, I get home from work at approximately twenty to 11 pm (crazy, right?) and I’ve found that I just can’t pay attention to whole TV shows that late at night but I still want to watch SOMETHING to unwind in the midst of checking my sites. Lifestyle YouTube videos have been fitting the bill nicely as of late.

3) Revisiting my youth by way of the library.

harrisburdick

Remember this book??? I picked it up at the library the other day (along with this book of accompanying short stories–more on that later) and it has been so fun to leaf through. Writing stories based on the mysterious pictures was one of my favorite elementary school activities. No wonder so many of us grew up to love conspiracy theories!

4) Putting cranberry sauce on everything.

cranberrysauce

I don’t know where this idea came from but lately I’ve been really into grilling fish (salmon, cod, tilapia) on my Foreman and somehow I got it in my head that cranberry sauce would be a really delish addition. So I picked up a jar of this R.W. Knudsen cranberry sauce from the grocery and gave it a try. OMG, it is the perfect finish for a really simple meal of meat, vegetables and rice…tangy and sweet and you just need one little dollop.

5) My new capsule wardrobe.

capsuleoutfit1

So, if you don’t know, I have a really weird obsession with capsule wardrobes (I talked about my love of minimalism ogling here). In addition to my “one in, one out” rule (which I’ve been really good about! Just the other day I took a whole Trader’s Joe bag full of clothes and accessories to donate when I was initially just looking to get rid of a one skirt and one necklace) I’ve been trying to streamline my wardrobe. I finally solidified a late summer/early fall capsule wardrobe that I’m really happy with. Outfit #1 from the capsule is pictured above! Longer post to follow, I’m sure. ; )

Now, tell me a few of YOUR favorite things? I wanna know what is making you happy and giddy this Friday! Spill!
